TV host, producer, writer, editor, journalist, and communications expert Barbara Balfour was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. Her career has taken her around the globe, with time spent living and working in Belgium, Japan, and Canada. Barbara graduated from the University of Calgary in 2004 with a background in international business and journalism. She brings over 20 years of experience to her work, during which she has received numerous awards as a public speaker and journalist. Barbara has visited and worked in 50 countries and speaks five languages, including French and Russian. As a writer and journalist, she covers diverse topics such as finance and investing, business and entrepreneurship, and consumer credit.

Work Experience

Experience as a Writer and Editor

In 2006, Barbara Balfour published two children’s books. The first, titled “Thanksgiving Day,” explores the history of the holiday and describes the various ways it is celebrated. Tailored for children aged 8–10, the book introduces young readers to the culture and traditions of this American celebration. The second book, “Great White Sharks,” details the characteristics, behavior, and diet of these marine predators. Intended for children aged 7–9, it helps them learn more about the underwater world and its inhabitants. Additionally, her writing experience includes editing an anthology of essays on the relationship between Canada and the European Union and writing articles for The Economist Group.

Media experience

Barbara Balfour has extensive experience in media and investor relations, as well as in external and internal communications. She has provided specialized media training, including coaching senior executives on how to prepare for on-camera appearances and tell their stories in an authentic and compelling way.

TV and journalism experience

In 2015, Barbara Balfour worked in television production on the Rogers TV project “Daytime Ottawa.” A highlight of Barbara’s journalism career was interviewing the renowned American linguist, political publicist, and philosopher Noam Chomsky. Furthermore, her professional background includes interpreting for Mikhail Gorbachev’s entourage and hosting a top-rated TEDx event in Denmark.
