TV host, producer, writer, editor, journalist, and communications expert Barbara Balfour was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. Throughout her life, she has lived and worked in Belgium, Japan, and Canada. Barbara graduated in 2004 from the University of Calgary with a degree in international business and journalism. She has over 20 years of experience, during which she has received numerous awards as a public speaker and journalist. Barbara has visited 50 countries where she has traveled and worked and has also learned 5 languages, including French and Russian. As a writer and journalist, she covers topics such as finance and investment, business and entrepreneurship, and consumer credit.

Work Experience

Experience as a Writer and Editor

In 2006, Barbara Balfour published two children’s books. The first one is called “Thanksgiving Day” and tells the story of this holiday and describes some of the ways in which it is celebrated. It is suitable for reading to children 8-10 years old, so Barbara wanted to dedicate children to the culture and traditions of the celebration of the American holiday. The second book is called “Great White Sharks” and describes the characteristics, behavior, and diet of great white sharks. The book is intended for children 7-9 years old and helps them to learn more about the underwater world and the animals that live there. In addition, her writing experience includes editing an anthology of essays on the relationship between Canada and the European Union and writing articles for the Economist Group.

Media experience

Barbara Balfour has also worked in media and investor relations, as well as in external and internal communications. She provided media training, which included coaching senior executives on how to prepare for a shoot and tell their stories in an authentic and compelling way.

TV and journalism experience

In 2015, Barbara Balfour worked as a TV operator. The project she worked on was called “Daytime Ottawa” on Rogers TV. Barbara’s work as a journalist brought a huge experience by interviewing the American linguist, political publicist, philosopher, and theorist Noam Chomsky. In addition, her work experience includes interpreting for Mikhail Gorbachev’s entourage and hosting the top-rated TEDx event in Denmark.
